National Honor Society

DODGEVILLE HIGH SCHOOL

National Honor Society is a special honor ascribed to students who have demonstrated exceptional qualities of scholarship, leadership, character and service to school and community. These criteria are set at the national level and our local chapter must abide by them. The purpose of the Dodgeville High School Chapter of National Honor Society is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulate a desire to render service, continue the development of a strong character and encourage citizenship.

The academic eligibility grade point average is a cumulative 3.5 or higher for juniors and seniors; in addition, sophomores are eligible with a grade point average of 3.75 or higher. In the spring of each school year, the selection process begins with a letter and application packet sent to all students academically eligible for National Honor Society. Upon submission of a completed application, each faculty member is asked to rate the applicant on scholarship, leadership, character and service. These evaluations will be considered by the National Honor Society Faculty Council, which makes the final selection. (Beginning with the 2012-2013 school year, all students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 to be eligible as a candidate for membership and seniors will not be eligible to receive the application packet, as they will be graduating and not able to fulfill membership obligations. As per chapter bylaws, the Faculty Council and National Honor Society Chapter Advisor shall reserve the right to award honorary membership to any student (including exchange students) in recognition of outstanding service or achievement for Dodgeville High School.)

Membership in National Honor Society is a nationally recognized achievement that students may list for their scholarship applications, college applications, and job resumes. In addition, membership in the Dodgeville High School Chapter of National Honor Society carries with it responsibilities of continued service to the chapter, school, and community. National Honor Society members will be required to complete a minimum of ten community service hours, attend monthly meetings, and actively participate in local chapter projects.

The 2012 – 2013 National Honor Society induction ceremony will be held April 30th, 2012 at the Dodgeville United Methodist Church beginning at 7:30 p.m. If you have any questions, you may contact Ms. Kathleen Rundle, National Honor Society Advisor, at Dodgeville High School.
